Before releasing the new album titled "Queen", singer/rapper Nicki Minaj released her first single of the album, "Chun-Li" on April 12th, 2018. Chun-Li became a huge hit and topped the charts for its catchy beat and lyrics. After the amazing reactions Minaj got from her fans, she released two more singles, "Barbie Tingz" and "Bed". It has been four years since Minaj released her last album so fans everywhere were excited for the release of "Queen" on August 10th, 2018. The album leans more towards a mixtape kind of vibe, which is pretty different than what the rapper has worked with before.
The first song, "Ganja Burns" introduces the album with a smooth electric guitar strum and banjo beat in the background as Minaj shows off her singing skills in the chorus. The next song, titled "Majesty", features the rapper, Eminem, shows a mix of pop and rap side of Minaj that we haven't seen yet. In previous albums, Nicki Minaj focused more on her rapping but in her "Queen" album, she is heard using more of her vocal skills. For example, the 7th song on the track list, "Thought I Knew You" featuring The Weeknd, both singers are heard singing every lyric throughout the song, using a strong autotune. Songs like "LLC", "Good Form", and "Miami", however, represent more of the rap industry in which many people say resent mix tape type of music. The most popular song since "Queen" was released, goes to "Barbie Dreams". In the fast beat song, Minaj haves a little fun by trolling all the popular rappers in the industry. Minaj promotes her new album on her radio show, "Queen Radio" where she explains all her song lyrics and throws even more shade towards the industry. This album has caused a lot of controversy but overall many listeners are, for sure, satisfied with the end results. Rating: 9/10
